Abortion is a much easier issue to shout about than poverty, and it's morally much easier to be opposed to abortion than to be opposed to the death penalty.

These people would have others think that Catholicism is based only upon anti-abortion principles. Is that a great wrong in the world, yes! But are there many other great wrongs in the world? Of course! Why do these people ignore that and anoint anyone who is anti-abortion as "standing by Catholic principles"?

For one political group to claim they have a monopoly on Catholic teaching when it's readily apparent that they don't is offensive in the extreme.
