In the News
1. If you scroll down to the third video clip here, you can see Telemundo's Mirthala Salinas deliver the news that L.A. mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is splitting up with his wife. What she neglected to mention to her viewers, though, was that she was the other woman in the relationship causing the breakup. D'oh!
2. Harlan J. Protass at Slate (man, what a name) notes that the logic the President used in commuting Libby's sentence is precisely the sort of logic his administration wants to deny judges who would consider the mitigating circumstances of a case when sentencing ordinary obstructors of justice who aren't the VP's buddy. It's also worth pointing out that Bush wasn't so much into his power to commute sentences when he was governor of Texas.

Are you sure that Telemundo's got it right? Much of what they put off as news is Weekly World News quality. I have a student who asserted (using ch. 34, which is diff. from Telemundo I think) that "it is known that the Chupacabras are from another planet . . . "
Well, nevermind my caveat on that. I really need to start following your links before I comment. :)
I like how the mayor calls Salinas a "consummate journalistic professional," which ordinarily does not mean "journalistic professional with whom I consummate."
Also, it's sloppy seconds from the current Assembly Speaker. Man, she's a "well-connected" journalist.
Hm--- Villaraigosa and S.F. mayor Gavin Newsom had both been considered major possibilities to succeed Arnold as governor, but they're both major philanderers who're divorcing while in office. I wonder how that'll affect their political careers.
